Thingstätte is an open air theater built by the Nazis in the 1930s on the Heiligenberg, a large wooded hill overlooking the town of Heidelberg in Germany. Many historic and prehistoric constructions are at this site from a Celtic hilltop fort, Roman sacred precinct, and medieval monasteries. In this piece honoring Saint Walburga and Celtic mythology, Belenus the Celtic god of the Sun and healing is portrayed as a fire playing the harp to ward off evil spirits. The performance illumination continuing until dawn.
This personal performance piece that explores themes of ancestry, identity, and connection to the land. This mountain is on the European Continental Divide, separating the two watersheds of the Rheia River to the North Sea and a tributary of the Po River feeding into the Adriatic Sea of the Mediterranean Sea. Hiking up to the summit of Mount Pizzo Dell' Uomo in Ticino Switzerland and shaving my beard, spreading my DNA atop the Continental Divide representing my ancestors DNA division. Halfs coming from each side of the divided watersheds. This is to be an act of acknowledgement and gratitude for all they have done.
Lapland Exposure is an art piece that immerses myself in the raw and extreme conditions of Lapland, with the intent to create transient, site specific works. The project centers on enduring the harsh environment while engaging with the landscape through art making.
A key element of the performance involved a symbolic gesture amidst the vast, uncontrollable beauty of the Arctic setting. Despite the challenges, the experience of creating under the Northern Lights was profound, Lapland Exposure captures the tension between human fragility and the sublime power of nature, offering a visceral reflection on endurance, impermanence, and restraint of the act of creation in extreme conditions.
